About Me

Hi, I'm Anirudha Menon, a theoretical condensed matter physicist from Kolkata. I am currently a National Postdoctoral Fellow at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Sciences.

Academic History

I obtained a PhD in theoretical condensed matter physics under the supervision of Prof. Rajiv Singh in 2021.  Prior to that, I obtained an MS in physics from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2015.  You can find out more about my detailed academic career by clicking on the Academics button.

Research

My research focused on topological materials and quantum magnetism, with an emphasis on material characterization and equilibrium and non-equilibrium transport. I worked extensively with quantum spin-liquids from a computational perspective, and on Weyl fermions from an analytical viewpoint. You can learn more about my research by clicking on the Research button.

Teaching

I have eight years of teaching experience in US colleges and universities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. I was a teaching assistant for five years, after which I was appointed as a lecturer at the University of California, Davis, for undergraduate students. More details about my teaching can be found by clicking on the Teaching button.

Current Research Interests

My current research interests include Hilbert Space Fragmentation in quantum spin systems and Second Harmonic Generation in tilted Multi-Weyl semimetals. While the former is a ongoing project with collaborators at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Sciences, the latter is a personal project. You can read more about these works by clicking on the Current Projects button.

Entrepreneurial Ventures

I have been associated with Vector Institute of Physics, founded by Dr. Arijita Mukherjee Chakraborty and Dr. Sagnik Chakraborty, as a partner contributing to the growth and teaching responsibilities of the Institute, since March 2022. In March 2023, we along with Sayantika Saha and Dr. Debomita Paul have lauched our own foreign education company specializing in standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, AP, etc.) and college consulting for students wishing to enroll in colleges in the United States. Some Memorable Moments from the Past

UIC Physics Fest 2014

This is me presenting my findings on the nature of cholesterol transport in unilammelar vesicles during the Annual Physics Fest at the Department of Physics, University of Illinois at Chicago, circa 2014. My advisors at UIC were Professor Ursula Perez-Salas and Luis-Nasser. Ursula is a biphysicist at UIC and Luis is a professor at Columbia College, Chicago.

Vector Institute of Physics

This was shot at the Vector Institute of Physics, Kolkata, during the summer of 2022, where I worked as a mentor and educator. I was involved in teaching physics and mathematics at the highschool and college levels based on the Indian curriculum. In this snap, I am explaining the reason behind the choice of sign of the Ricci scalar embedded in the Einstein field equations.
